Adam Świerczyński Memorial Fund
Why education?
In many developing countries, improved education on an individual or community level is one of the best leverages for lifting themselves from the poverty. Education allows for identifying new, previously unseen development possibilities, improvement of living conditions, better job options – and above all gives an opportunity to improve one’s future.
How do we help?
The fund assists the children from poor families to access education on above-primary level, which often is in short supply in the rural areas. The students are selected by the local community amongst the graduates of a local elementary school. PCPM’s assistance includes coverage of the tuition, as well as purchase of education and writing materials, as well as boarding.
Where do we work?
The stipends are disbursed among the youth in the PCPM’s countries of operation, currently Sudan, Zambia, Kenya, Tajikistan, Georgia and the Palestine (occupied Palestinian territory).
Adam Świerczyński was the co-founder and vice-president of the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM), headed several PCPM’s country missions in Africa, as well as supervised PCPM’s projects in Sudan and Zambia. His work and commitment to assisting people in need or living in poverty has directly impacted many people, most notably in Sudan and Zambia.
He particularly cared about giving education opportunities to young people, who enter their adult life and for whom vocational training could greatly assist in lifting themselves from poverty. To this end, he supervised construction of two schools and of a vocational center in South Sudan (Juba), as well as of an extension of a primary school compound in central Zambia (Mpunde). Adam was killed on 9 August 2010 in South Sudan. We are mindful of his commitment and are working to uphold it. |
