Needs
One of the main problems affecting livelihoods in the Hebron district is severe shortage of water, which impacts on the wider population, as well as limits business oportunities both in industry and agriculture. The problem is agrevated with decreasing rainfall, releated to the long spell of drought affecting much of the Middle East since 2006. The livelihoods of Hebron's population received also a major blow with the construction of the separation wall and limiting options for Palestinians' employment in Israel.
The southern part of the region, area called Massafer Yatta, is particuarly affected. Livelihoods in that area are still closely related to small-scale animal husbandry, sale of meat, and domestic dairy production. In spite of a large productive potential of their animals, local herds have continiously decreased ove rthe last years due to a lack of basic resources (e.g. water and fodder) and infrastructure (e.g. energy supplies enabling storage of milk and meat products).
Poor standards of milking, collecting, and home processing applied by the farmers increase a chance of milk contamination and reduce milk products' quality, hence increasing risks to public health. Contaminated dairy products had in the past contributed to a spread of zoonotic diseases among consumers and since then contributed to low interest in home-made diary products among the consumers. This in turn has an impact on prices and low value -added of the on-farm milk processing.
Activities
A solution to these problems is collection of milk under controlled, hygienic conditions and selling it to dairy factories run by local farmers’ cooperative, where the milk can be processed and marketed from. The milk will be cooled during is collection, then transported to the production centre. There it will be pasteurized before packaging resulting in safer consumer dairy products.
Furthermore, the farmers can benefit from additional income as a result of selling their milk to a dairy cooperative. This will help to achieve the project objective which is to increase an income and improve the livelihood of the sheep and the goat farmers in the region of Masafer Yatta. The farmers are being trained on sheep and goat farm management as well as on the milk hygiene and quality to ensure that the production center will get milk that meets the health and sanitary standards. It is important the both men and women participated in the training. As the milk will be collected by a milk collection center in one of the villages, also a staff of the center will be trained to enhance their management skills and to ensure a proper milk collection. In addition, the farmers will take a part in presentations relating to the development education about basic problems of food sovereignty in the world.
Outcomes
Farmers receive training and assistance enabling them to reform the current agricultural practices, gain additional income and improve their livelihoods.

Odpowiadając na apel humanitarny Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych w sprawie potrzeby poprawy warunków żywieniowych w obozie dla uchodźców w Dadaab, PCPM we współpracy z Fundacją dla Somalii rozpoczyna obecnie realizację projektu dostarczenia zestawów do podgrzewania i gotowania posiłków wraz z zapasem paliwa stałego dla 4800 rodzin uchodźców. Projekt współfinansowany jest z dotacji Ministerstwa Spraw Zagranicznych RP przeznaczonej na pomoc dla ludności cierpiącej wskutek klęski głodu w Afryce Wschodniej. Więcej informacji nt projektu.
